Hermiston High School Celebrates Class of 2024 Graduation

HERMISTON—The 2024 graduation ceremony took place at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Washington, on June 6 at 7:00 P.M., with 368 students proudly walking across the stage. The event saw significant attendance from staff, family, friends, and students, reflecting strong community support for the graduates.

The class of 2024  has shown notable academic success. Three valedictorians under the weighted GPA policy were awarded 31 Honors Diplomas and recognized 92 seniors graduating with honors. A total of 190 Programs of Study were acknowledged, with completers wearing the stoles of their respective programs.

This year also marks a notable achievement for military service, with ten students meeting the rigorous standards required for admission into one of the four service branches. These accomplished students can be recognized by their distinctive red, white, and blue cords.

In terms of financial achievements, seniors reported earning $3.9 million in scholarships, nearly $1.9 million of which came from participants of the Path to Scholarships workshop. Local scholarships amounted to $370,000.

During the graduation ceremony, Principal Tom Spoo shared his parting words, “I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey that has brought you here and the values that will guide you forward. High school has been a time of growth, learning, and discovery. You've acquired knowledge, developed skills, and formed friendships. But beyond that, I hope you have also cultivated a sense of morality and ethics, for these are the cornerstones of a fulfilling and honorable life.”

Superintendent Dr. Tricia Mooney expressed her deep appreciation, stating, “Each year, the unwavering support from our community fills me with immense joy. It is through the dedication and tireless efforts of the Hermiston School District's teachers that these students have been shaped from their very first day in the classroom. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our educators for their pivotal role in these achievements.”
