Hermiston School District was recently notified by the American Association of School Personnel Administrators that Human Resources Manager Donna Thomas was named the organization’s Human Resources Specialist/Support Staff of the year for 2021.
The recognition is awarded annually to an individual whose contributions have had significant impact on the efficiency of the human resources office and to the field of human resources; who has at the local, state/province, national, and/or international level distinguished him/herself through leadership service; and is a collaborative, contributing participant in personnel functions and/or programs, according to the AASPA award announcement.
“AASPA could not have selected a more worthy professional for this honor,” said Superintendent of School Dr. Tricia Mooney. “Donna has worked in human resources for nearly 40 years. This experience and wealth of knowledge is a great benefit to HSD and our HR department.”
Thomas will be recognized at the AASPA Conference in Washington, D.C., on October 13, 2021.
Thomas began her professional career with the Coos Bay schools while in high school. Despite taking a break in service to be home with her young family, she had 29 years of experience when hired by HSD. Now in her 39th year in public education, Donna officially retired with the Public Employee Retirement System in 2020; however, she was hired back by the district, on contract, in the same capacity.

El Distrito Escolar de Hermiston fue notificado recientemente por la Asociación Americana de Administradores de Personal Escolar que la Gerente de Recursos Humanos Donna Thomas fue nombrada la Especialista en Recursos Humanos / Personal de Apoyo del año de la organización para el 2021.
El reconocimiento se otorga anualmente a una persona cuyas contribuciones han tenido un impacto significativo en la eficiencia de la oficina de recursos humanos y en el campo de los recursos humanos; que a nivel local, estatal/provincial, nacional y/o internacional se ha distinguido a través del servicio de liderazgo; y es un colaborador y un participante que contribuye en funciones y/o programas del personal, según el anuncio del premio de AASPA.

"Donna ha trabajado en recursos humanos durante casi 40 años. Esta experiencia y su vasto conocimiento es un gran beneficio para HSD y nuestro departamento de recursos humanos."
Thomas será reconocida en la Conferencia de la AASPA en Washington, D.C., el 13 de octubre del 2021.
Thomas comenzó su carrera profesional con las escuelas de Coos Bay mientras estaba en la preparatoria.
